The sudden death of Moses Muthama has left his family and close associates in shock, prompting messages of sympathy from President William Ruto and other leaders. Moses, son of Parliamentary Service Commission member Johnson Muthama and Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu, reportedly collapsed at home on Wednesday evening before being rushed to a nearby facility.
President Ruto expressed deep sorrow over the loss, acknowledging the immense grief that comes with losing a child. He encouraged the family to find solace in faith and the support of those around them.
"We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Commissioner Johnson Muthama, Senator Agnes Kavindu, and the entire family and friends on the painful loss of their beloved son, Moses Muthama. There are few sorrows as profound as that of a parent losing a child; it is a burden no heart is ever prepared to carry,” Ruto said.
The Head of State also prayed for Moses’ eternal rest while offering comfort to the family and others affected.
“In this hour of grief, may you be surrounded by compassion, upheld by faith, and strengthened by the love of those who stand with you. May God grant the family comfort, peace, and courage in the difficult moment. Rest in peace, Moses.”
Friends and political colleagues joined in expressing condolences. Kitui Senator Enock Wambua extended his sympathies to Senator Kavindu and her family.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Machakos Senator, Agnes Kavindu and her family during this difficult time. I'm deeply sorry to hear about the loss of your son, Moses Muthama. Please accept our sincerest condolences. Pole sana, Mheshimiwa," Wambua said.
Moses had been serving as Director in charge of administration in Machakos County government after his 2024 appointment by Governor Wavinya Ndeti. The governor joined the nation in mourning, emphasizing solidarity with the grieving family.
"I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to Machakos Senator Hon. Agnes Kavindu and her family following the untimely passing of her beloved son, Moses Muthama. The people of Machakos County stand with you in this time of profound sorrow and pray that Almighty God grants you comfort, peace, and strength to endure this immense loss. May the Lord grant Moses eternal rest and give the family the courage to bear this great loss. Our prayers are with you," Ndeti said.
The family has previously suffered loss, following the death of Moses’ sibling, Janet Njoki, in 2022.
